Unit 1: Learning Artifact #1
Rehabilitation Counselors are often presented with circumstances and scenarios that are complex and require creative problem-solving while strategically utilizing various resources. Building these problem-solving muscles and expanding resource networks can take time and lots of practice.
There's No Better Time Than Now!
In this activity, you will select legislation from rehab counseling history and develop a brief review of the topic. Some of the legislative topics are complex so this activity will require you to strategically utilize various resources while monitoring your time and output so you don't get "lost in the weeds." You can search reputable sources on the internet, review the actual legislative publications, reach out to community providers (like folks working in Vocational Rehabilitation, Centers for Independent Living, or organizations that offer disability advocacy) to inquire about resource sharing, watch reputable videos on YouTube, etc. The point is ... get creative about how you will gather this information and start developing your resource networks.
You will have lots of leverage for how you'd like to structure your finished product. For example, you can create a written outline, a brochure, a factsheet, an infographic, a concept map, a short PowerPoint ... the sky's the limit.
The requirements: to create an easy-to-review resource for yourself and your peers to use as a study guide for preparing for the CRC exam and also as a practice resource that you can refer back to as needed when you are serving in the field. Your finished product should be between 300-400 words. Additionally, please include a resource list for where more information can be obtained.
Depending on how many students are in the class, I might need to restructure the list of options, but the overall goal is: (1) for each student to dive deeper into key legislation that have contributed to the practice and profession of rehabilitation counseling, and (2) to collectively develop quality study and practice resources to share with one another.
